The Second Dance Song

Institute of Contemporary Arts, Singapore
2006

‘The Second Dance Song’ is a book which accompanies the art exhibition of the same name.

Reacting to the essays in the book, which cite Nicolas Bourriaud’s book ‘Postproduction’ (about works that are created based on existing works), H55 created a book cover that appropriates Peter Saville’s ‘Ceremony’ album cover design for New Order (1981) (which Saville had in turn created by copying Berthold Wolpe’s ‘Albertus type speciment’ (1937).)

Similarly, the inside pages are all deliberate appropriations of existing paperback publications, with each artist’s section represented by a ‘ready-made’ dingbat.
