The initial design brief to mass produce up to two or three types of boxes to house the ‘Souvenirs from Singapore’ series of objects was thrown out as the sizes of the souvenirs proved to be too varied and impossible to anticipate.
Taking cues from the plastic bags commonly used in traditional ‘mama stores’ to package plastic toys and sweets, the customised zip lock bag was chosen as it can contain objects of various dimensions loosely without looking as awkward as a box, while its metallic backing visually frames the Souvenirs of Singapore logo / contents, increasing the perceived value for these seemingly ordinary objects.
